Ann-Renee Desbiens was sensational in net for Canada, stopping 22 of the 23 shots she faced. She was particulary impressive late in the game, making a couple of sprawling saves on Abby Roque and Kendall Coyen Schofield.

The loss was the only one the Americans suffered at the tournament. The team previously defeated Canada in the preliminary round, but could not take down their rivals in the championship game. It’s the 12th silver medal for the United States at the Women’s Worlds.
Czechia defeated Switzerland in the bronze-medal game to secure the country'’s first-ever medal at the tournament and rounding out the podium.

USA vs. Canada live updates, highlights from 2022 Women's World Championship
Final: Canada 2, USA 1
3:55 p.m. — A late push at the end by the Americans is not enough, as the Canadiens hang on for the 2-1 win. A gritty win for the Canadians to go back-to-back for the first time since 2004.
3:53 p.m. — My word, Ann-Renee Desbiens. Another sprawled-out save by Desbiens as Coyne Schofield had a wide-open net and Desbiens stretched her arms out to knock down the puck.
3:49 p.m. — With 2:30 left, the USA pull Hensley from the net to make it 6 on 5.
3:42 p.m. — The Americans kill off the Harmon penalty. The clock continues to tick and Canada remains ahead 2-1.
3:38 p.m. — Canada heads to the power play as Savannah Harmon trips up Jenner at the blue line. The USA must come up with a huge penalty kill, while Canada aims to double its lead.
3:37 p.m. — USA can't come up with a goal on the advantage. Roque had another chance, with a loose puck getting to her on the backdoor, but she misses the net with her attempt. We have less than nine minutes left in the game.
3:36 p.m. — Desbiens with another strong stop. Coyne Schofield uses her speed to beat Canada's defense and get to the net. Her shot is saved and the rebound comes out to Roque, but she fires it into the group of bodies in the crease. A great chance, but no dice for the Americans.
3:34 p.m. — What a play by Knight, who takes advantage of a miscue by Desbiens and nearly scored. Desbiens bobbled the puck a rolling puck heading towards her and it went right to Knight, who tried to pull it to the backhand and roof it but she was tripped by Desbiens. The USA goes to the power play, the team's only goal came earlier on the man advantage.
Another close call🤯

3:26 p.m. — Hensley responds with an excellent save of her own. Fillier and Emily Clark are in on a 2 on 1, Fillier flicks it ahead to Clark, she deflects it up at Hensley but the goalie makes a great blocker stop.
3:23 p.m. — A great chance within the first two minutes for the USA as Jessie Eden is left wide open in front, but she's denied by Desbiens' blocker. By far, the best save of the game so far by the Canadian goaltender as she keeps Canada's lead alive.

End second period: Canada 2, USA 1
3:01 p.m. — After 40 minutes, it's a one-goal game with Canada holding the 2-1 lead. Canada was the better team for most of the period, but the late goal by Roque gives the USA momentum heading into the final period.
3 p.m. — GOAL! The Americans are on the board as Abby Roque is left wide open on the backdoor for the easy tap-in from a feed by Kessel. The USA convert on the power play with 20 seconds left in the period to make it a 2-1 game.

2:57 p.m. — Jenner takes down Brandt and the Americans go to the power play again. Barring a power play goal, it will be 5 on 4 for the rest of the period.
2:54 p.m. — A huge scramble for the puck ensues in the Canada crease as the USA jam away to try and get on the board. It stays out and the United States have yet to find a way to beat Desbiens so far.
2:50 p.m. — A bad turnover by the Americans at their own blue line turns into a chance for Fillier along on Hensley, but the goaltenders gloves it down. Fillier is called for a slash at the end of the play so the USA goes to its first power play of the game.
2:45 p.m. — GOAL! It's Jenner again, as Canada comes through on the power play. Jenner is in the same spot as her first goal, but this time she goes high far side on Hensley. It's 2-0 with 9:05 left in the period.

2:43 p.m. — Another penalty to the USA as Hannah Brandt heads off for boarding. Seconds after the Jenner goal, and Canada goes to another power play.
2:42 p.m. — GOAL! Brianne Jenner opens the scoring as she beats Hensley low off the rush. She cuts to the net, pulls the puck to her forehand and looks like Hensley got herself spun around trying to drop down for the stop. Just over 10 minutes left in the frame, it's 1-0 Canada.

2:37 p.m. — Chances for both Sarah Nurse and Sarah Fillier for Canada, but Hensley stops both shots. The American goalie has been seeing a lot of action so far in this period.
2:33 p.m. — It's been all Canada so far to start the second. Nicole Hensley has been forced to make a couple of big saves on open shots.
End first period: USA 0, Canada 0
2:09 p.m. — The USA kill off the Scamurra penalty to end the period. Not a ton of offense in this one, as both defenses are doing a great job of limiting chances. Shots are 4-2 in favor of the Canadians.
2:06 p.m. — Canada goes back to the power play as Hayley Scamurra is called for boarding.
2:05 p.m. — Alex Carpenter rings the iron with a shot off the rush. A really good pass by Knight, saucing the puck into open space for Carpenter to skate into. A good chance for the USA, who haven't put a ton of pressure on Desbiens.

2 p.m. — Neither team is getting a ton of shots on net. We're closing in five minutes left and Canada has just three SOG while the USA has two. Both defenses have been stellar, getting sticks on pucks and disrupting plays.
1:54 p.m. — Nothing doing for Canada on the power play, back to even strength.
1:51 p.m. — Abby Roque gets called for an illegal hit on Sarah Nurse so Canada heads to the power play.
1:49 p.m. — Canada has to be more responsible with the puck. The team has had a couple of bad turnovers in its own zone, resulting in either scoring chances or sustained pressure by the United States. Hilary Knight's line controlled the play for at least a minute in Canada's zone. Still scoreless.
1:46 p.m. — A back-and-forth game thus far. Not a ton of great chances on either side. The best one came from the United States off a Canada turnover in its own zone. Kendall Coyne Schofield grabbed a loose puck and was all alone in the slot, but she is denied by Ann-Renee Desbiens.
