It was another efficient game for the United States, who controlled the pace of play from start to finish. Andrew Oke and Remington Keopple combined for the shutout, the first looks for each goalie so far in this tournament.

The United States move to 3-0-0-0 in Edmonton, and now, the team will shift its focus to Sweden, who presents the toughest test yet for the Americans.

Austria gets the day off Sunday after playing back-to-backs on Friday and Saturday. The team is still looking for its first win with a matchup against Germany set for Monday.

Logan Cooley tracker

Each game, we will highlight one player on Team USA to follow.

For the contest against Austria, we will focus on Logan Cooley. The University of Minnesota commit was selected with the No. 3 pick in the 2022 NHL Draft by the Coyotes. He's picked up a goal and assist in the first two games of the tournament.

Cooley is a responsible, two-way center with high offensive upside. He was one of the leading point scorers for the U.S. National Team Development Program this past season, thanks to his exceptional speed and ability to move the puck efficiently and quickly.

1st period

Cooley shows off his passing early on in the first, as he feeds a pass from the wall to the far dot, finding Matthew Coronato all alone, who dances around Leon Sommer and finds the back of the net. Great vision by Cooley on the goal as he picks up his third point of the tournament.

We've seen a handful of Michigan attempts, and Cooley adds to that list. He attempts the lacrosse move form behind the net, but can't finish the play, missing the net. It's the closest attempt I've seen so far. He's got some skill in his toolkit that we've seen flashes of at times.

Obviously it's Austria and it's been all USA, but Cooley has been arguably the best player out there. He's using his speed and creativity to get the puck moving in the offensive zone and after his line had a quiet night against Switzerland, they have been all over Austria early.

2nd period

A quieter period by Cooley. He attempted another Michigan early in the second, not as close as his first try at it in the opening period.

3rd period

Another quiet period as he and USA put it in cruise control in the third. His line with Coronato and Knies was buzzing all game long, creating multiple chances. Cooley finishes the game with just an assist, but it feels like he should have been on the scoresheet more.

USA vs. Austria live updates, highlights from 2022 World Juniors

Final: USA 7, Austria 0

4:32 p.m. — Another fairly easy win for the United States. The Cooley line was the best combo, as Coronato recorded a goal and an assists with Cooley and Knies each adding a helper as well.

4:28 p.m. — GOAL! With 40 seconds left, Sasha Pastujov somehow beats Sommer high along the goal line. Right off the ear of Sommer and into the net. That's an excellent shot by Pastujov.

4:26 p.m. — Another shot off the post for the USA, as Samoskevich beats Sommer to the far side, but not the iron. That's their third or fourth post today.

4:18 p.m. — USA goes to their second power play as Nico Kramer is called for holding. Mazur scored seconds into their first man-advantage opportunity.

4:11 p.m. — Austria goes to its fourth power play as Bordeleau is called for slashing.

4:08 p.m. — Another chance for the Cooley line, as they get sustained time in the offensive zone and eventually after a shot from the point, Coronato gets the puck and tries to go around the Austrian goalie and find Knies in front. The puck winds up sitting in the crease, but Austria is able to clear it out. Coronato had a chance earlier in the shift, diving at a rebound but the attempt went wide.

4:06 p.m. — New goalie in net for U.S. as Remington Keopple gets the start in the third. Andrew Oke finishes the day stopping all 12 shots he faced.

End 2nd period: USA 6, Austria 0

3:45 p.m. — End of the 2nd, USA 6, Austria 0. Another dominant period by the United States and Mazur gets two goals in the period. The power play got to go to work and capitalized within seconds. The penalty kill unit also got busy in the second. Shots are 42-11 in favor of the Americans.

3:44 p.m. — With 26 seconds left, Austria takes another power play as Stramel is called for roughing.

3:42 p.m. — No goal, as the play was offsides. James had it onsides when he first collected the puck, but it crossed back over into the neutral zone as he tried to handle it and Coronato was already in the zone.

3:39 p.m. — A shorthanded tally for Dominic James makes it potentially 7-0. An exceptional pass from Hughes to rip it from his own end to James at the blue line. He hits Coronato with the pass, who gives it back to him and he makes no mistake. However, Austria is challenging for offsides.

3:37 p.m. — Brett Bedard slashes at the goalie as the puck is covered and the officials give him two minutes for slashing. It's the second man-advantage chance for Austria, who are still looking for their first goal today.

3:26 p.m. — Austria gets their first power play as Dominic James will sit two minutes for slashing.

3:21 p.m. — GOAL! That was easy. USA strikes seconds into the power play as Mazur finishes off a pretty passing play. Mackie Samoskevich goes across the slot to Bordeleau, who finds Maxur in the bumper spot in the slot for the quick shot.

3:20 p.m. — Maximillian Preiml gets called for cross-checking.  A fairly weak call, but the first power play chance of the day for USA.

3:18 p.m. — GOAL! After two goals against Switzerland, Carter Mazur finds the back of the net yet again. Thomas Bordeleau stick lifts an Austrian and takes the puck away. Sasha Pastujov collects the puck and hits Mazur, who walks in by himself and rips it by Sommer.

3:12 p.m. — Red Savage gets away with a high stick on Martin Urbanek. Looks like the stick caught him right in the mouth as it's a bit bloodied.

3:08 p.m. — Another excellent shift from the Cooley line to start the second. Cooley attempted yet another Michigan attempt but again, was not successful. He's feeling it today.

End 1st period: USA 4, Austria 0

2:47 p.m. — All USA from start to finish. The second line of Cooley, Coronato and Matt Knies have been incredible so far, as has Kaiser on the blue line. It's evident they can do pretty much whatever they want in the Austria zone. Some extra creativity and chances being taken today and as long as bad habits aren't formed from it, no harm in trying out some new moves for Team USA.

2:41 p.m. — GOAL! Red Savage gets in on a breakaway and appears to ring the crossbar, but a few seconds later, the buzzer rings. It goes to review and it clearly goes in, hitting the backbar and immediately coming back out of the net. That's Savage's second goal of the tournament.

2:29 p.m. — Less than a minute after Kaiser scored his second, Coronato almost had his second. Some pretty passing leaves Coronato all alone in the slot, he walks in along and rings the shot off the crossbar. Again, Austria is struggling to defend and they're leaving players open in Grade-A areas, which is not a recipe for success against USA.

2:28 p.m. — GOAL! It's Kaiser again with a shot from the point. Kaiser steps into a wrister that might have nicked the tip of the Austrian defender but it is goal No. 2 of the day for Kaiser. A great screen in front by Charlie Stramel made it difficult for Sommer to track the shot.

2:24 p.m. — It's pretty clear Austria is the weakest team the U.S. has seen at this tournament. Team USA is just doing whatever they want in the offensive zone, constantly cycling the puck and working the point. Austria is chasing a bit as well, which isn't going to work against USA. Switzerland was effective when they stayed structured in their own zone and kept USA to the outside, but that's not happening with Austria.

2:17 p.m. — United States defense is caught sleeping and Moritz Lackner gets in alone behind them. He gets a clean shot off, but it misses wide.

2:12 p.m. — GOAL! Matt Coronato makes it 2-0 as he is left all alone in front of the Austria net, out-waits Sommer and fires it into the open net. 2:32 into the first and USA has struck twice. Horrible defensive breakdown by Austria.

2:10 p.m. — GOAL! Team USA needs less than a minute to get on the scoresheet, as Wyatt Kaiser whistles one from the point that goes by Leon Sommer. Good screen in front by multiple bodies as the Americans waste no time.

Pregame

1:30 p.m. — A few lineup changes for the United States. Jack Peart comes back in, replacing Sean Behrens who played for Peart in the Switzerland game. Charlie Stramel makes his debut as Hunter McKown sits. Andrew Oke gets the start in net after Kaiden Mbereko started the first two contests.
