Nic Petan is only five games into his Maple Leafs career, and the team decided it likes what it sees.
Toronto signed Petan to a two-year contract extension Thursday after receiving the fourth-year forward from Winnipeg on Feb. 25 in exchange for Par Lindholm. The deal has an average annual value of $775,000.

Petan's one goal since joining the Leafs gives him three points on the season along with the two assists he notched with the Jets.
The Delta, B.C., native was no stranger to success before the NHL. He amassed 358 points in 252 games with the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL and won a gold medal representing Canada at the 2015 World Junior Championships.
Drafted in the second round by Winnipeg in 2013, Petan has 24 points in 113 NHL games.
