A sport as violent as hockey doesn't allow for many players to spend their careers, or even a season, injury-free. The rarity of these players makes the accomplishment of remaining healthy even more impressive.
Maple Leafs center Patrick Marleau has not missed a game since April 9, 2009, and Friday night against the Flyers he took the ice for his 777th consecutive game. He passed Craig Ramsay for the sixth-longest consecutive games streak all time.
Marleau's streak is the third-longest among active players behind the Stars' Andrew Cogliano (831) and the Panthers' Keith Yandle (785).
The 39-year-old Marleau showed that almost 800 straight games and 1,646 games over his 20-year career have not slowed him down. He scored his 15th goal of the season off a deflected shot by William Nylander.
Marleau will have the chance to suit up for a 778th game in a row Saturday against the Senators.
