Back-to-back games are tough in any league — and it may have taken it's toll on the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Maple Leafs, fresh off a 4-3 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, will take on the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night in Toronto. But when the Leafs take the ice at the Air Canada Centre, they may be shorthanded.
Coach Mike Babcock said multiple players, including star center Auston Matthews, were "bumped and bruised" following the game against the Penguins, and that Matthews would be a game time decision.
The Oilers, though, are in the same boat. Edmonton beat the Montreal Canadiens 6-2 on Saturday night, thanks to two goals from Juhjar Khaira. They've now won three of their last five games, and bounced back from Wednesday's loss to the Philadelphia flyers.
The Maple Leafs have won their last three games against the Oilers, and are on a two game win streak.
The last time the two teams played, Toronto edged Edmonton 6-4.
"That may have been our best 40 minutes of the year," Edmonton's Ryan Strome said of that first matchup. "If we can just build off that and remember that feeling… We've got to create our own luck off the start. We can't wait for something to happen, good or bad. We've got to dictate the play. We know we're capable, it's just that consistency. Hopefully we can find that early tonight"
