The reigning Stanley Cup Champions kickstart their quest for back-to-back titles against the highest point-getter in the Western Conference, when the Golden Knights take on the Stars in a first-round NHL playoffs matchup.
And the series will have added significance, too: Vegas eliminated Dallas in last year's conference finals, winning the series in six games.
Vegas put together yet another strong season, notching 98 points to finish fourth in the Pacific Division. But they finished just one point behind the Kings, thereby drawing the high-flying Stars in the first round.
Jack Eichel is healthy again following a lower-body injury that sidelined him for a large chunk of the regular season. He joins forward Jonathan Marchessault, who tallied a career-best 42 goals, as the top-two goal-scorers.
The Stars tallied 113 points this season, the most in the Western Conference, and finished the regular season with an 8-2 record in their last ten games. It's the most points that Dallas has notched since the 1998-99 season.
All-Star netminder Jake Oettinger went 35-14-4 with a 2.72 goals-against average in 53 starts this season. Forward Jason Robertson leads the team with 80 points, while Wyatt Johnston has a team-high 32 goals.
Vegas won all three matchups in the regular season, including two in overtime. But the teams have not played since December.
