The Stars and Avalanche will meet in the second round of the 2024 NHL playoffs, and a trip to the Western Conference Final is on the line.

The No. 1-seeded Stars, who dominated the Central Division, have proven themselves as the top team in the conference and division throughout the year. Their veteran depth, solid goaltending, and ability to secure and maintain home-ice advantage in crucial games have been key to their success. In a thrilling first-round showdown, the Stars triumphed over the defending Stanley Cup champion Golden Knights in a seven-game series.

Meanwhile, the Avalanche, a No. 5 seed, got hot at just the right time, as their opening-round series saw them face a dark-horse Jets team that put the Avalanche in an early 1-0 series hole before they rallied and won four straight, taking the series in five games. Game 5 saw the Avalanche clinch the series in Winnipeg 6-3, thus pulling off the upset behind two goals from Mikko Rantanen in the third period.

The Avalanche haven't hoisted the Stanley Cup since 2022, while the Stars have been searching for their first championship since 1999. The series winner will face the Canucks-Oilers victor.
