Stanley Cup Final: Bruins star Brad Marchand avoids injury after scare in scrimmage image

There were some anxious moments for the Bruins on Thursday in an intrasquad scrimmage when star Brad Marchand appeared to hurt his hand.

After Marchand bumped into teammate Connor Clifton, he was seen flexing his left hand on the bench. But he returned without missing a shift, much to the relief of the Bruins and coach Bruce Cassidy.

"(Marchand) jammed his ... I don't know what he jammed," Cassidy said afterward (via ESPN). "He kept playing … No issue."

While Marchand was noticeably absent from Sunday's practice, the team downplayed the significance as a "maintenance day."

Marchand, who finished fifth in the NHL with 100 points in the regular season, has 18 points in the postseason, behind only San Jose's Logan Couture's 20.

The Bruins were tuning up for their Stanley Cup Final opener Monday night against the Blues. Cassidy admitted it's a concern that the team avoid any mishaps ahead of that series.

"Injury risk was our biggest concern tonight. It will be Saturday when we practice at the regular time, and Sunday," Cassidy said.

Bruins fans packed TD Garden for the scrimmage, and could be heard yelling, "We want the Cup!" Boston has won six Stanley Cups, most recently in 2011.
