It's now the women's turn.
While a lot of hockey is going on, from the Stanley Cup playoffs to the men's world championship, the women are set to take center stage.
The Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) will be hitting the ice in the organization's first Canadian showcase of the Secret Dream Gap Tour of the season. Three teams — Team Bauer (Montreal), Team Sonnet (Toronto) and Team Scotiabank (Calgary) — will compete in a round-robin tournament culminating in a championship game on May 30. The tournament is being supported by the NHL's Calgary Flames.
It has been a while since the majority of these women have taken part in a competitive game, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It's an important week for a number of stars who will be competing for Hockey Canada at the women's world championship this summer and in preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Those set to suit up include Marie-Philip Poulin, Jill Saulnier, Natalie Spooner, Sarah Nurse, Rebecca Johnston and Brigette Lacquette. A few notable names that are missing include Melodie Daoust (Team Bauer) and Micah Zandee-Hart (Team Scotiabank), who are both injured.
Here's everything you need to know about the PWPA's Canadian leg of the Secret Dream Gap Tour tournament, including how to watch games in Canada.
