The Sabres are hoping that they can snap the longest active playoff drought in the NHL.
Buffalo hasn't secured a postseason berth since 2011, and it hasn't won a playoff series since 2007. To put that streak in perspective, Daniel Briere, the current general manager for the Flyers, was the team's points leader the last time the Sabres advanced beyond the first round.
But there is reason for optimism in Buffalo. New-old head coach Lindy Ruff, who replaced Don Granato, will look to push the Sabres back into attack mode and maximize a roster that should be better offensively. They certainly don't lack talent with players like Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch and Owen Power flying around the ice.
