The New York Rangers are closing in on a sweep against the Carolina Hurricanes after a 3-2 overtime win in Game 3 of their second-round series. With their second straight overtime win, the Rangers remained undefeated in this year's NHL Playoffs, starting the postseason 7-0 for the first time since their 1994 Stanley Cup run.
Only two minutes into overtime, Artemi Panarin scored on Pyotr Kochetkov with an incredible between-the-legs redirect. New York wouldn't have had to endure the extra period had Carolina's Andrei Svechnikov not scored with 1:36 left in regulation.
Jake Guentzel scored the first goal of the contest, and Chris Kreider and Alexis Lafreniere scored for New York to erase the deficit before Carolina tied it back up.
The Rangers swept the Capitals in Round 1 and are on the brink of doing the same to the Hurricanes. Carolina will have to tighten up and not allow New York to capitalize on the late-game magic that has been propelling it through this series so far.
