Patrik Laine’s goal proved to be just enough to lead the Winnipeg Jets to a victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night.

Laine received the puck in front of the net off a pass from Blake Wheeler with 8:20 to play in the first period. He then sent a wrist shot past Vancouver goalie Anders Nilsson and into the bottom left corner to give Winnipeg an early lead. Neither team scored again as the Jets held on for a 1-0 win. The goal was Laine’s 21st of the season.

Winnipeg goalie Connor Hellebuyck stopped all 29 Vancouver shots he faced to record the shut out. Hellebuyck also registered 30 saves in the Jets’ 2-1 shootout victory over Calgary on Saturday. Anders Nilsson made 35 saves for Vancouver in the losing effort.

Winnipeg’s Kyle Connor was called for a hooking penalty with just 1:30 left in the game. Vancouver managed four shots in that time, but all missed the mark as the Jets held on for the win.

The victory moves Winnipeg’s record in 2017-18 to 28-13-7 while Vancouver fell to 18-23-6.
