Third period

:11 Nate Thompson puts this game on ice with an empty-net goal. Senators lead, 3-0

2:58 Bobby Ryan takes the puck away from Jonathan Drouin and dekes past Carey Price before roofing the puck home to double Ottawa's lead. Senators lead, 2-0

10:11  Craig Anderson spins around in his crease and parries the puck away with his goal stick.

10:33 A crowd of bodies around the Senators crease nearly gives Max Pacioretty a shot at an open net, but Johnny Oduya makes a defensive play to keep the Canadiens off the board.

14:10  The Canadiens will have a chance to tie the game, with Thomas Chabot getting called for the Senators first penalty of the game.

19:28  Erik Karlsson draws an early penalty as he spins away from Max Pacioretty, who trips up the Senators captain.

Second period

Carey Price might be the best player on the ice, but Jean-Gabriel Pageau has the lone goal and the Senators leads the Canadiens 1-0 through two periods. Pageau's goal with just over five minutes remaining in the second broke a scoreless tie. Price is up to 28 saves through 40 minnutes after stopping 14 of 15 Montreal shots in the second period. The Senators meanwhile have held the Canadiens to eight shots in both the first and second.

2:42  Carey Price to the rescue again. He lunges across his crease to get a piece of Matt Duchene's shot with his blocker on a 2-on-1 to keep the Canadiens deficit at 1-0.

5:05  The Senators win an offensive zone faceoff, and work the puck back to the point. Erik Karlsson directs the shot toward the net and it's Jean-Gabriel Pageau who deflects it past Carey Price.  Senators lead, 1-0.

Mario Lemieux's five goals scored five different ways is announced as the top moment in NHL history, as voted on by fans.

Price makes another save or two as the power play expires. He's a perfect 19-for-19 minutes into the second period.

18:35  Matt Duchene and Mike Hoffman go whacking away at a loose puck in the crease, but Carey Price takes away the space at the bottom of the net and keeps the puck out.

19:22  Carey Price isn't having any issues adjusting to the elements. We moves right-to-left, tracking a one-time shot right into his logo and swallows it up to stop play.

19:39  An early power play awarded to Ottawa, when Zach Smith takes a high-stick from Philip Danault.

First period

The first period comes to a close with the game still scoreless. The Senators led in shots on goal 15-8, and in shot-attempts 20-13. Not many great chances on either side, but Carey Price made a few strong saves on Matt Duchene and Gabriel Dumont to keep Ottawa off the board.

3:08  Matt Duchene walks to puck out from below the goal line, but Carey Price is strong in turning aside his stuff attempt in the pads.

3:51  Byron Froese goes off for slashing and the Senators get the game's first power play.

Has anyone mentioned that they're playing outside and that it's cold?

17:41 Gabriel Dumont gets the game's first good scoring chance on a 2-on-1, but is stopped by Carey Price on the break before he crashes into the Canadiens goaltender.

7:12 p.m.  Starting lineups:

6:50 p.m. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau along with son Xavier join the Hockey Night set minutes prior to opening faceoff.

6:42 p.m. Former Senator forward Daniel Alfredsson joins the broadcast set to discuss the evening's festivities.

6:34 p.m. The teams take the ice at Landsdowne Park for pregame warmups.

It's going to be cold — the expected temperature for puck drop is -21 Celsius — but this show will go on between the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens outdoors on Saturday at Landsdowne Park in Canada's capital.

The Atlantic Division rivals and Canadian neighbors will meet in the first of three scheduled outdoor games this season, and in a game where both teams are in desperate need of points. The Canadiens (14-14-4) enter play Saturday two points behind the Boston Bruins for third place in the Atlantic, a spot that would automatically qualify them for the playoffs.

The Senators (10-13-7) meanwhile just snapped a five-game losing streak (0-4-1) on Wednesday with a 3-2 win against the New York Rangers. It was also Ottawa's first win on home ice since Nov. 2.
