Things got physical in the final minute of the third period between the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, resulting in a hefty fine for Brady Tkachuk. The 20-year-old has been fined the maximum amount of $2,486.56 for his cross-check on Scott Laughton, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced later on Saturday.

With about 24 seconds remaining in regulation and the Sens down 4-3 with the goalie pulled, Tkachuk delivered a cross-check to Laughton — who was without the puck in the neutral zone — sending him down to the ice.

As Laughton was getting back to his feet, Tkachuk then jumped on top of him, dropping the gloves as he tackled him back to the ice. Other players rushed to the scene and got involved in a bit of a brawl before the officials broke it up.

Tkachuk was assessed both a cross-checking and a roughing penalty and was sent down the tunnel early, giving Philadelphia a late power play, ultimately ending the Senators comeback hopes.

Tensions appeared to rise between the two earlier in the third when Laughton appeared to say something to the Senators forward after scoring the game-winner with less than five minutes to go.

In 30 games this season, the 6-4, 212-pound winger has 10 goals — including one score Saturday — and 17 points, placing him fifth on the team in scoring.
