Jacob Trouba has parlayed his career season into a huge new contract.
The 25-year-old defenseman, acquired by the Rangers from the Jets in a trade last month, has agreed to a seven-year, $56 million deal with New York, according to multiple reports. That makes him one of the highest paid defensemen in the league.

As a restricted free agent, Trouba had been scheduled for an arbitration hearing next week.
Trouba, who played his first six seasons for the Jets after being the No. 9 overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, tallied a career-high 42 assists and 50 points with Winnipeg last season.
