NHL trade rumors: Panthers deal goaltender James Reimer to Hurricanes image

James Reimer is apparently Carolina bound after Florida found its trade partner.

According to TSN, the Panthers have traded the veteran goaltender to the Hurricanes for Scott Darling and a 2020 sixth-round pick.

Darling won't be in Florida for long, though, as the Panthers have placed him on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout, the report noted.

It had been reported that Reimer was on his way out of Florida since he is owed $3.4 million over each of the next two seasons. He has two years remaining on the five-year contract he signed with Florida in July 2016.

The buyout will save the Panthers $2.4 million in salary cap space next season and just under $200,000 in 2020-21. However, it will cost the team $659,000 in cap space over the next two years.

Reimer, 31, posted a 13-12-5 record in 29 starts with a .900 save percentage and a 3.09 GAA last season as the backup for the newly retired Roberto Luongo.
