The Old Barn was rocking to kick off the New York Islanders' postseason. For the first time in 31 years, the Nassau Coliseum hosted Game 1 of a playoff series and the crowd was not disappointed early.
Just 31 seconds into the game, the Isles' Tom Kuhnhackl netted a goal past Penguins netminder Matt Murray; however, after an extended examination, the play was deemed offsides and the marker was erased from New York's ledger.
One minute later, Jordan Eberle netted a goal that actually counted as the point shot hit him while he was all alone in the slot, he turned and buried it five-hole to give the Islanders an early 1-0 lead. It was Eberle's first career postseason goal; he recorded two assists in 13 playoff games for the Oilers in 2017.
It was the first postseason goal at Nassau Coliseum since April 25, 2015, when Cal Clutterbuck scored in the third period against the Washington Capitals in a 3-1 victory in Game 6. The Islanders would go on to lose the first round series in seven games.
Eberle played a role in New York retaking the lead, assisting Brock Nelson for his first career playoff goal with 4:34 left in the opening period.
