Leafs' rookie Holl scores again, sets franchise mark for defensemen image

Maple Leafs defenseman Justin Holl took some time to get the NHL, but he's making the most of it now.

Toronto's 26-year-old rookie scored in his NHL debut Wednesday night and followed it up with another goal in the first period of Thursday night's 4-0 win over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Holl took a pass near the blue line and skated to the right circle before firing the puck past Henrik Lundqvist, who was screened in front by Zach Hyman.

With the goal, Holl became the first defenseman in Maple Leafs franchise history to score a goal in his first two NHL games and just the sixth blueliner in league history to accomplish that feat. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that he scored both goals on his first two shots as an NHLer.

Holl played 239 games in the minor leagues, spending time in both the ECHL and AHL, before making his NHL debut in Wednesday's 5-0 win against the Islanders.

The Maple Leafs (30-18-5) will attempt to keep their shutout streak and Holl's scoring streak alive when they face the Bruins on Saturday in Boston.
