NHL free agency rumors: Cam Talbot reportedly set to sign with Flames image

Cam Talbot appears to be on the verge of returning to Alberta.

The former Edmonton Oilers goaltender is set to sign a one-year deal with the Calgary Flames, according to Fox Sports' Andy Strickland. Talbot finished the 2018-19 season as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers after spending the previous three-and-a-half seasons with the Oilers.

A native of Caledonia, Ont., Talbot's last two campaigns have seen his numbers worsen from his career averages, with 2018-19 being a particularly poor season for the 31-year-old. Talbot posted a 3.40 goals-against average and a save percentage of .892 in 35 games (32 starts) while splitting time between Edmonton and Philadelphia, way off his career 2.60 GAA and .915 save percentage.

However, the Flames still see Talbot as a good fit, according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun.

Talbot will likely slot into Calgary's roster as the backup to restricted free agent David Rittich, who established himself as the Flames' starter last season and is expected to re-sign. The Flames also have 25-year-old netminder Jon Gillies under contract heading into the 2019-20 campaign.
