After Monday's wild NHL trade deadline, many players debuted with their new teams Tuesday.
Most notably, two ex-Senators, Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Tyler Ennis, made strong impressions by scoring in their first game.
DEADLINE WINNERS, LOSERS: Oilers seize the day
Pageau's goal in his New York Islanders debut was a case of being in the right place at the right time.
Defenseman Ryan Pulock fired a shot off the glass that took a fortunate bounce into the crease. Pageau corralled the puck and tapped it in as New York Rangers goalie Alexandar Georgiev was clueless about the puck's location.
Pageau's goal ignited an Islanders comeback. New York erased a pair of two-goal deficits to earn a point in a 4-3 overtime loss.
The Oilers' two deadline acquisitions, Ennis and Andreas Athanasiou, were slotted into the top line with Connor McDavid because of injuries to James Neal and Joakim Nygard. The new unit worked an incredible tic-tac-toe goal on an odd-man rush.
McDavid carried the puck into the zone and fed Athanasiou on the left wing with Ennis charging to the net. Ennis was able to redirect Athanasiou's pass top shelf past Ducks goaltender John Gibson.
Ennis got an assist as Athanasiou scored his first Oilers goal, a game-tying tally late in the third period.
