The 2023 Frozen Four concludes tonight in Tampa, as No. 1 Minnesota and No. 2 Quinnipiac meet in the NCAA hockey national championship.
Minnesota defeated Boston University 6-2 in its semifinal game on Thursday. Locked in a 2-2 tie heading into the third, the Golden Gophers got two goals early in the frame from defenseman Luke Mittelstadt before Logan Cooley iced the game with two empty-net goals.
With a win on Saturday, Minnesota would add its sixth NCAA title. The powerhouse program has not won the national championship since going back-to-back in 2002 and 2003.
On the other side is a Bobcats team looking for its first national title. Quinnipiac took down Michigan 5-2 in its semifinal contest thanks to two goals from forward Jacob Quillan and an outstanding effort in net from goaltender Yaniv Perets.
This is the third time in the last decade that Quinnipiac is playing in the national championship. The program fell to Yale in 2013, and then to North Dakota in 2016.
