Auston Matthews is facing a disorderly conduct charge in Scottsdale, Ariz., following an incident in May.

The Toronto Maple Leafs star is scheduled for a pretrial conference on Wednesday, but he's not required to appear in court. The 22-year-old, who is heading into his fourth season with the Leafs, was not arrested for the incident, which took place on May 26.

According to a report filed with Scottsdale police, a security guard at an apartment complex filed a complaint after she said Matthews tried to open her car door while she sat inside at 2 a.m. local time. The guard said that Matthews, who was accompanied by a group of people, then proceeded to pull down his pants and grab his buttocks while keeping his underwear on.

The complainant said Matthews was intoxicated at the time.

After word got out about the incident on Tuesday, the Leafs issued a statement acknowledging the complaint.

"The Toronto Maple Leafs are aware of the complaint of disturbing the peace against forward Auston Matthews," the statement read. "Auston is cooperating fully with the relevant authorities but neither he nor the Club will comment any further out of respect for the process involved."

Matthews was raised in Scottsdale after spending his early years in California.
