Maple Leafs fans are hoping to hear their goal horn throughout the 2023 NHL playoffs.

With the goal horn, comes their famous or infamous, depending on how you look, goal song.

Toronto's goal song has been around for a few seasons, but it is not your typical celebration tune. In fact, Leafs star Auston Matthews even openly campaigned to change the tune.

“I wouldn’t mind hearing something different, maybe switching it up,” Matthews told Sportsnet's, Tim Micallef.

“Change it up. Switch it up. Maybe see if we can get something else going and go on a nice little run. I’m always open to change but if they want to keep the same one going, I’m fine as well.”

So what is the Leafs goal and why isn't it a crowd-pleaser? The Sporting News has details on Toronto's goal song and its history.

What is the Maple Leafs goal song?

The current goal song of the Maple Leafs is "You Make My Dreams" by Hall & Oates. It has been the tune played after a Toronto tally at Scotiabank Arena since 2018.

The 1980s hit single from the American duo is not your typical high-energy, pump-up goal song that other arenas have. However, it has grown on some Maple Leafs fans and the unique music is now correlated with the Leafs, at least in the hockey community.

Maple Leafs goal song history

Toronto has gone through a number of goal songs in its history.

In the 1990s, the Maple Leafs used Technotronic's 1989 hit, "Move This" for several years. That was back when the club still resided at Maple Leafs Gardens. They also utilized "Feeling Hot Hot Hot" by The Merrymen during that time.

In 1999, when the Maple Leafs moved into Scotiabank Arena, the team also made a switch with its goal song. At first, the organization used "Get Ready" by 2 Unlimited, which the Sharks used as their goal song for a number of years in the 2010s.

The celebration tune changed again in the mid-2000s, this time to "Kernkraft 400" by Zombie Nation, a staple at most sporting events and the goal song most synonymous with the Bruins.

Ever since 2010, the team has gone through a multitude of goal songs. During this experimentation stage, Toronto tried using Metallica's "Wherever I May Roam", Locksley's "The Whip", Baauer's "Harlem Shake", American Authors' "Best Day of My Life" and Monster Truck's "The Enforcer".

Nothing seemed to stick until the Hall & Oates jam came into play in 2018. That tune has been the Maple Leafs goal song since 2018.

'You Make My Dreams’ lyrics

What I want you've got
And it might be hard to handle
Like the flame that burns the candle
The candle feeds the flame, yeah, yeah
What I've got's full stock
Of thoughts and dreams that scatter
Then you pull them all together
And how I can't explain
Oh, yeah
Well, well you
(Ooh-ho, hoo-ooh, ooh-oo)
You make my dreams come true
(You-hoo, you, you-hoo, hoo, you, hoo)
Well, well, well you
(You-hoo, hoo-hoo-ooh)
Oh, yeah
You make my dreams come true
(You make my dreams)
Come true
(You-hoo, you, you-hoo, hoo, you, hoo)

On a night when bad dreams become a screamer
When they're messin' with the dreamer
I can laugh it in the face
Twist and shout my way out
And wrap yourself around me
'Cos I ain't the way you found me
And I'll never be the same
Oh, yeah
Well, 'cos you
(Ooh-ho, hoo-ooh, ooh-oo)
You make my dreams come true
(You-hoo, you, you-hoo, hoo, you, hoo)
Well, well, well you
(You-hoo, hoo-hoo-ooh)
You make my dreams come true
(You make my dreams)
Come true
(You-hoo, you, you-hoo, hoo, you, hoo)

Listen to this

I'm down on my daydream
Oh, that sleepwalk should be over by now
I know
'Bout you
Yeah, yeah
You make my dreams come true
(You-hoo, you, you-hoo, hoo, you, hoo)
Oh, yeah
I've waited, waited for you, girl
(You-hoo, hoo-hoo-ooh)
Oh, yeah
You make my dreams come true
(You make my dreams)
Come true
(You-hoo, you, you-hoo, hoo, you, hoo)
You and me, you and me...
