Josh Morrissey holdout over as Winnipeg Jets sign defenseman to two-year deal image

After holding out to start training camp, Josh Morrissey agreed to a two-year deal with the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday, the club announced.

Morrissey, who played with Jacob Trouba on the top pairing for Winnipeg last year, was a restricted free agent following the 2017-18 season. Coming off his entry-level contract, he agreed to bridge deal worth $6.3 million, with an average annual value of $3.15 million.

Entering his third season, the 23-year-old is coming off his best year. The Calgary native had 26 points (seven goals, 19 assists), a team-high 168 blocked shots, was plus-15, and averaged 20:27 time on ice in 81 games for Winnipeg. 

In Game 5 against Vegas in the Western Conference Finals, he scored the game-tying goal as the Jets unsuccessfully tried to stave off elimination. Drafted 13th overall by Winnipeg in the 2013 NHL Draft by Winnipeg, Morrissey has 13 goals and 33 assists in 164 career games.
