After Canada defeated the USA in the round robin, the Americans scored three times in the third to break a 3-3 tie in the final. USA captain Hilary Knight recorded a hat trick in the win.

Canada and the USA continue to dominate the event. The two North American rivals have faced each other in every gold-medal game with the exception of 2019 when Finland stunned Canada in the semis and lost to the USA in the final. Both countries have medaled at every event.
