The Edmonton Oilers honored police constable Mike Chernyk ahead of their 2017-18 season opener against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday.
Chernyk was hit by a vehicle and stabbed Saturday night near Commonwealth Stadium, where the CFL's Edmonton Eskimos and Winnipeg Blue Bombers were playing at the time. The suspect also allegedly struck four pedestrians with a vehicle in the ensuing police chase.
All five victims survived the attacks.
Chernyk received a standing ovation when he was announced to the crowd during Wednesday's pregame ceremony at Rogers Place.
Police have one man in custody in connection with the attacks.
