Fans in the Tri-state area have not been treated to a Devils-Rangers playoff series for over a decade.

Until now.

The two Metropolitan Division foes are set to bring the Hudson River rivalry to the postseason, as the Devils and Rangers meet in the first round of the 2023 NHL playoffs.

New Jersey was one of the few surprises this season. Tabbed to finish towards the bottom of the Eastern Conference in the preseason, the Devils took a huge step forward out of their rebuild, finishing second in the division and earning the club its first postseason berth since 2018.

In many ways, the Rangers were the Devils of last year; a young, up-and-coming team that was not expected to be this good this soon. New York ended up going on a run to the Eastern Conference Final, losing to the Lightning.

This year, the Rangers have their eyes on getting back to the conference final and finishing the job they could not do last year.
