After competing in a grueling seven-game series in the first round of the 2023 NHL Playoffs, the Bruins and Panthers are set to clash again in a second-round series beginning on Monday.
Boston narrowly avoided blowing a 3-1 series lead against the Maple Leafs in the first round. Facing a 1-0 deficit in the third period on their home ice in Game 7, the Bruins mounted an emphatic rally.
Hampus Lindholm netted the game-tying goal, and David Pastrnak played hero, scoring the series-winning goal less than two minutes into the overtime period to vault Boston into the next round.
Florida had a much easier time in its first-round series, dispatching the Lightning in five games. That series included an emphatic, 6-1 victory in Game 5 to send Tampa Bay, a playoff stalwart in recent years, home. Carter Verhaeghe and Matthew Tkachuk starred against the Lightning, netting nine points a piece.
Last year, Boston jumped out to a 3-1 series lead against Florida, but the Panthers won the final three games to down the Bruins, kickstarting their run to the Stanley Cup Finals. Two of those victories came in overtime, adding to the collective gut punch for Boston.
