Play Gloria!
The St. Louis Blues rode hot goaltending from Jordan Binnington and some opportunistic offense to stun the Boston Bruins 4-1 in Game 7 of the 2019 Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday. The Blues jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period despite being heavily outshot, and they never looked back as Binnington continued to stymie waves of Bruins attack, while his teammates were relentless in playing a physical brand of hockey.
A cagey second period saw no goals between either team, leading to a wide open third period as the desperate Bruins pushed forward. As was the case throughout the contest, Binnington stood tall in the final frame, and his teammates took advantage of the increased opportunities as they put the game away with two more goals.
By the time the Bruins finally found a way past Binnington, it was too late. The celebrations had already begun in fan viewing parties in St. Louis, and the team was able to join in on the fun on the ice in Boston as the horn sounded to confirm the Blues' first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
Sporting News tracked live updates and highlights of Wednesday's Game 7. Check out how it all went down:
Blues 4, Bruins 1: Updates, highlights from Game 7
First period
20:00 - Here we go. One game for the Cup!
17:30 - The pace of this game is fast. End to end stuff right now, but no shots on goal yet.
14:20 - Still quick, but scrappy. The Bruins nearly had an opportunity with a huge rebound off Binnington, but they couldn't corral the puck before St. Louis got reset.
12:24 - That was a very good stretch by Boston, with a period of sustained pressure putting the Blues on their heels.
12:03 - PENALTY. Colton Parayko puts the puck over the glass from the defensive zone, and gets called for dekay of game. Boston to the power play.
10:11 - Bruins are throwing everything at Binnington right now. It's a mystery how they haven't scored on this power play. The rookie is up for it!

9:00 - It's been 10-and-a-half minutes since the last (and only) Blues shot.
5:17 - The Bruins are laying the body on the Blues all over the ice now. St. Louis returns the favor in kind, and the Blues hold a 12-5 overall lead in hits so far.
3:13 - 🚨 GOAL 🚨 The Blues, who had gone 16:11 without a shot, get two in quick succession with the second going right through Tuukka Rask's legs. Blues 1, Bruins 0.

O’Reilly is the third player in NHL history - and first in 53 years - to score his team’s opening goal in four consecutive games during a Stanley Cup Final. Toronto’s Sid Smith did so in 1951 (Games 1-4) followed by Detroit’s Norm Ullman in 1966 (Games 3-6).

0:08 - 🚨 GOAL 🚨 The Blues break out of their own zone and a beauty of a drop pass by Schwartz sets up Pietrangelo for a slick finish. Blues 2, Bruins 0.

Second period
20:00 - Here we go. The middle frame is underway.
16:03 - The Bruins again jump out to a shot advantage. 3-0 so far in the period for Boston, but Binnington has been unbeatable.
12:20 - The wind has been taken out of the sails of this game. It's very pedestrian at the moment, after a frantic first period.
9:52 - Huge save! Rask and his teammates barely keep the third goal from hitting the back of the net on a Blues break.

5:44 - We're nearing the end of the second, and the Blues still have fewer than 10 total shots. Amazingly, they were inches from being up 3-0 a few moments ago.
2:29 - Binnington makes save No. 21 of the night. He's frustrated the Bruins for nearly 40 minutes.
0:00 - The second period has come to an end. Boston outshoots St. Louis 11-5 in that frame.

Third period
20:00 - Twenty minutes to glory for the Blues. Can Boston stage a rally?
16:52 - Blues get a couple of shots away on a 3-on-1, but Rask is equal to it.
12:37 - Time is ticking down fast in this period, and the Bruins are running out of opportunity to get back into this one.
11:07 - Wow, what a save! Binnington just robs Nordstrom with a sprawling stop. The rookie netminder has been incredible tonight and he may have just completely shut the door on Boston.

5:00 - It feels inevitable as the clock continues to tick down.
