Andrew Shaw injury update: Canadiens forward to miss at least 6 months after knee surgery image

It was an injury-filled 2017-18 season for the Montreal Canadiens, which included missing some of their best players like Shea Weber and Carey Price for extended stretches.

While Montreal is hoping to turn the page on a disappointing season this summer and recover from some of those injuries, it sounds like one player won't be ready for the start of the upcoming season.

Canadiens 2017-18 Report Card: Unproductive offense, poor goaltending proves to be undoing

The Canadiens announced forward Andrew Shaw underwent knee surgery on Wednesday, and his recovery period is expected to be a minimum of six months. The short end of that window would return at the end of October, the first month of the NHL season. Shaw was limited to 51 games in 2017-18 in part due to knee problems, and last played for Montreal March 13 before sitting out the final 12 games of the regular season.

Shaw chipped in with 10 goals and 10 assists this past season, following scoring 12 goals the year prior, his first playing for the Canadiens.

He joins Weber as Canadiens players who will be recovering from surgery this offseason. Weber went under the knife in March for a foot fracture he played on for two months during the regular season. Weber is also expected to be out for six months, which could see him return to the ice at the end of preseason.
