Alex Ovechkin spent the Capitals' off day Friday doing his part as a good Samaritan.

While shopping with teammates in Edmonton, where the Capitals play the Oilers Saturday night, Ovechkin noticed a man on the street without a shirt. Instead of passing by, with temperatures in the low 50s, he decided to act, buying a sweater, hat and winter coat to give to the man.

A tweet from the account of a local cafe, the Sequel Cafe, first pointed out the good deed Friday night. And on Saturday, Ovechkin reluctantly told the story about his encounter with the man to reporters following the Capitals' morning skate.

“He was like, ‘Are you serious?’” he recounted, via the Washington Post. “He was a little in shock. But again, we don’t have to concentrate on this moment right now. …

“It’s something I think where if you see a guy almost naked out there with that kind of temperature, I think every human can do something, you know? Warm coat or a shirt or whatever.”

Ovechkin is off to an impressive start to the season, with 10 goals and 12 points in the Capitals' first 10 games. This story is only proof the Russian star doesn't get enough due credit for the person he is off the ice.
