Cheetahs are now native to South Beach. On Wednesday, the Chiefs and Dolphins came together on the NFL's latest blockbuster deal, with Kansas City shipping wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins for a huge package of picks.
On top of the trade, Hill is reportedly signing a brand-new contract that makes him one of the highest paid players in football and the highest-paid receiver on average annual value in his new deal.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Dolphins and the Jets were both the finalists in the Hill sweepstakes hours before the trade went down. At the end of the day, it was Hill's choice to make, meaning he ultimately decided to take his talents to South Beach.
Here's how the deal broke down:
Tyreek Hill trade details
On March 23, the Chiefs and Dolphins agreed to a deal that would send Hill and his talents to Miami for a massive package of picks, and a new contract.
- Dolphins receive: Wide receiver Tyreek Hill;
- Chiefs receive: 2022 first-round pick (No. 29 overall), 2022 second-round pick (No. 50 overall), 2022 fourth-round pick, 2023 fourth-round pick, 2023 sixth-round pick.
It's unclear what the Jets' package for Hill was, but reports suggested that New York offered a similar package which equaled the value of the picks offered by Miami.
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports that the Jets' offer included both of their 2022 second-round picks, at No. 35 and No. 38.
Chiefs are trading six-time Pro-Bowl WR Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins for five draft picks: a 2022 1st-round pick (No. 29), a 2nd-round pick (No. 50) and a 4th-round pick, as well as 4th- and 6th-round picks in the 2023 draft, sources tell ESPN.

Jets trade offer to the Chiefs for Tyreek Hill - that Kansas City would have accepted if the WR opted for NY - did not include a first-round pick, but rather multiple picks that were commensurate to the Dolphins’ offer based on the draft value chart that teams use, per sources.

In addition to the picks, Hill received a massive contract extension, which is what led to the trade away from Kansas City to begin with.
The Dolphins are inking Hill to a four-year, $120 million extension, with $72.2 million in guarantees, per reports. That new contract, coupled with the lack of income tax in Florida (and sunshine), may have ultimately pushed Hill's decision.
The likely deciding factor for Hill accepting a trade to Miami is twofold: Hill spends his offseasons there, as well as the massive contract extension he received — the no income tax thing in Florida certainly helps.
