After getting shut out against Buffalo in Week 2, Miami's offense was dealt another big blow Wednesday.

Dolphins coach Brian Flores announced that his starting quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, suffered a worse rib injury than initially expected and won't play Sunday against the Raiders.

Tagovailoa left Sunday's Week 2 contest after getting sacked early in the game, and though he got up and walked off the field under his own power, he was carted to the locker room.

Before leaving the game, Tagovailoa was 1-for-4 with 13 yards and was sacked twice.

He was eventually replaced with Jacoby Brissett, who went 24-of-40 with 169 yards and an interception.

With Brissett thrust into the starting role, Sunday will mark the first time he's started a game since he started 15 games for Indianapolis in 2019, his last full season as a starter.

That year, he completed just over 60 percent of his passes while amassing 2,942 yards and threw 18 touchdowns to just six interceptions.

It remains to be seen how long Tagovailoa will be sidelined and how long Brissett will start, but Brian Flores did say the team wasn't considering putting Tagovailoa on the injured reserve.

Tagovailoa played in 10 games and started nine for the Dolphins last year as a rookie and completed just north of 64 percent of his passes and picked up 1814 yards with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions.
