Ian Eagle breaks out Taylor Swift reference on Travis Kelce touchdown call amid dating rumors image

Travis Kelce returned to the field on Sunday after missing the Chiefs' Week 1 loss with a knee injury.

Patrick Mahomes welcomed the tight end back by throwing a touchdown pass to him in the early stages of the third quarter.

Meanwhile, CBS play-by-play announcer Ian Eagle celebrated Kelce's return by hinting at the rumors that the 34-year-old is dating pop star Taylor Swift.

Eagle referenced the viral bit of celebrity gossip after Kelce's half-opening touchdown grab. During the play, Mahomes scrambled out of the pocket and was looking for one of his receivers to find a hole in the defense, and Kelce did so.

That prompted Eagle to exclaim, "Kelce finds a blank space for the score!"

Of course, "Blank Space" is the title of a song from Swift's 2014 album, "1989." The song was atop the US Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks and earned three nominations at the 58th Grammy Awards; that included nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

So, Eagle's nod was certainly a smart one. And it will give pop culture aficionados and "Swifties" a chuckle during the NFL Sunday.

Kelce may get a laugh out of it too, when he eventually hears it. But as it stands, he has been mum about the rumors surrounding him and Swift. His brother Jason, who plays for the Eagles, also declined to provide any information about Travis' personal life.

"I’ve seen these rumors, I cannot comment," the elder Kelce said. "Ever since ‘Catching Kelce,’ everybody’s been infatuated with Travis’ love life. I don’t really know what’s going on there. I know Travis is having fun, and we’ll see what happens with whoever he ends up with."

Regardless of whether the rumors are true, it seems that the potential love story between Kelce and Swift has captured the attention of all in the NFL world, including its most notable announcers.
