San Francisco announced it will be rolling out its white uniforms in the Super Bowl. These jerseys include a white top and gold pants.

This decision did come with some controversy, though. 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman told the media that the team had been pushing the NFL to allow them to wear their all-white 1994 uniforms for the Super Bowl. That didn't pan out, however, and the 49ers will stick with their present-day uniforms instead.

The Chiefs will wear red jerseys and white pants in the Super Bowl. Sunday's game marks the first time in the history of the Super Bowl that the game will feature two teams with red as their primary color.

In head-to-head history with the 49ers in white and the Chiefs in red, Kansas City holds a 5-2 record over San Francisco, winning each of the previous five head-to-head matchups.

Who is the home team in Super Bowl 54?

The Chiefs will serve as Super Bowl 54's home team while the 49ers will be the visitor. The NFL rotates home teams for the Super Bowl between the AFC and NFC every year. For the 2019 Super Bowl, the NFC's Rams were the home team against the AFC's Patriots.

49ers' record in white uniforms

The 49ers are 7-1 this season in white uniforms, the lone loss coming in a Week 13 defeat against the Ravens. This record includes San Francisco's Week 8 win over the Panthers and their Week 17 win over the Seahawks in which they wore throwback white uniforms in both games. San Francisco's two playoff wins came in their red uniforms.

Chiefs' record in dark uniforms

The Chiefs are 8-3 this season in dark uniforms, including their divisional round win over the Texans and AFC championship win over the Titans. Kansas City's losses in its dark uniforms came in Week 5 against the Colts, Week 6 against the Texans and Week 8 against the Packers. The Chiefs have gone 6-0 in the dark uniforms since the Green Bay defeat.

49ers Super Bowl results by uniform

Will the 49ers win Super Bowl 54 solely because of their uniforms? Though we know that's not possible, there are some surprising similarities between jerseys and Super Bowl results.

San Francisco is 2-0 in their team's Super Bowl history while wearing white uniforms, defeating the Bengals in Super Bowl 14 and the Broncos in Super Bowl 24. Moreover, teams wearing white jerseys have won 13 of the last 15 Super Bowls.
