Why is Shams Charania breaking NFL news? NBA insider crashes 2023 NFL Draft with Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud picks image

Shams Charania is more known for breaking news about the NBA, but on Thursday, he dipped his toe into the NFL waters.

Charania, who reports for The Athletic and Stadium, was active on Twitter during the early stages of the 2023 NFL Draft. And like he often does during the NBA Draft, he was tipping picks before they were announced by the NFL.

It started when Charania broke the news that Alabama quarterback Bryce Young would be selected by the Panthers with the No. 1 overall pick.

That was hardly a surprise, and many expected that Charania would only break that one selection before continuing on with his night.

Instead, Charania continued to announce picks. He correctly reported that the Texans were going to select Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud with the No. 2 pick.

Shortly thereafter, he announced that Alabama linebacker Will Anderson would be the No. 3 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, he incorrectly reported that it would be the Cardinals selecting him. Arizona had traded down with Houston, who took Anderson with the third selection.

Perhaps Charania was thinking about the NBA Draft's rules, which require teams to make their assigned selections before trades are announced. Either way, he corrected himself later on Twitter and still correctly matched the player to the pick.

Naturally, Charania's antics drew a reaction from those on social media who joked about his skills as an insider and lack of social life. Below are some of the best tweets about Charania's role in covering the 2023 NFL Draft.

Charania stopped tweeting about the NFL Draft after the third pick, so it appears that he may be done breaking news for the night.

Nonetheless, the NBA insider proved that he can more than hold his own when covering the NFL should he ever decide to jump from the parquet to the gridiron.
