To expect either of Taysom Hill or Jameis Winston to truly and adequately replace Drew Brees under center in New Orleans seems like a Herculean task.
And yet, when the two suit up for the Saints in their Week 2 preseason matchup against Jacksonville in primetime, that contest could go a long way toward appointing Brees' successor.
Both teams are 0-1 thus far in the newly-shortened, three game preseason, with Jacksonville stealing last week's headlines by cutting former quarterback-turned tight end Tim Tebow while New Orleans is coming off a 17-14 loss to Baltimore.
The Saints employed three quarterbacks — Hill, Winston and former Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book — each with varying degress of success. Winston threw the only touchdown of the game for the Saints and went 7-of-12 for 96 yards, while all three threw interceptions. Winston will get the start Monday over Hill, who started Week 1.
In addition to naming Winston the starter for Monday's second of three preseason games, Saints coach Sean Payton announced that star running back Alvin Kamara won't suit up for New Orleans during the game.
Jacksonville, meanwhile, got productive outings from quarterbacks C.J. Beathard and Jake Luton, who each threw a touchdown while this year's first overall pick and former Clemson star Trevor Lawrence had a relatively pedestrian day, going 6-for-9 with 71 yards.
While there's little doubt about whether or not Lawrence will lead Urban Meyer's offense come the regular season, this does figure to be a compelling matchup for Saints and NFC South fans alike.
Here's everything to know about the NFL Week 2 preseason game between the Jaguars and Saints, including the start time and TV schedule for the first "Monday Night Football" game of 2021.

What channel is Saints vs. Jaguars on today?
The Saints vs. Jaguars game will be broadcast live on ESPN to cap Week 2 of the NFL's preseason.
This preseason Monday night game, presumably much like the other two that'll feature New Orleans, will feature ESPN's main "Monday Night Football" crew of Steve Levy, Brian Griese and Louis Riddick on the call in the booth, which means Lisa Salters will serve as the sideline reporter.
Fans can tune to ESPN or stream the game on the WatchESPN app or espn.com/watch as well as listening to the game on Westwood One or Sirius XM radio. The game can also be streamed on fuboTV, which comes with a seven-day free trial.
As both teams look for their first win of the preseason, the Saints and Jaguars will close out their preseasons next week with the Cardinals and Cowboys, respectively.
Viewers in Canada can watch the game exclusively on DAZN with a subscription.
