The threat of a lawsuit from Jerry Jones won’t deter NFL owners from extending Roger Goodell’s contract as commissioner of the league through 2024.

"The owners voted unanimously to authorize the compensation committee to enter into negotiations and offer the commissioner an extension of his contract through 2024," NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart told reporters Thursday on a conference call.

Lockhart pointed out negotiations with Goodell have been “amicable” and “productive,” while disputing an earlier report claiming Goodell was “furious” with the way the discussions have developed.

“The reporting around potential holdups has not been accurate," Lockhart said. "I don’t know where it’s coming from."

Regarding the threatened lawsuit from Jones, Lockhart said he was aware of the report but “neither the compensation committee or the league has been made aware of a lawsuit being filed."
