Roger Goodell is a polarizing figure.
The NFL commissioner is aware of it, often hearing fans boo him on stage during the NFL Draft. Sometimes, he'll even encourage the jeers.
Love him or hate him, Goodell is nearing two decades as the league's commissioner. Team owners selected him to be the NFL's lead executive in 2006. Of the four major United States sports, he's the second-longest tenured commissioner behind NHL's Gary Bettman.
He's collected millions of dollars over his NFL career. How much money has he made? Here's the answer to that, including his yearly salary, contract length and total net worth.

Roger Goodell contract details
Goodell signed a three-year contract extension in March 2023, which will keep him in his position through March 2027. This is his fourth extension with the NFL since taking the job in 2006.
The contract's value was not disclosed, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that it's "expected to be incentive-laden and, considering the league's financial success, the most lucrative deal ever given to any commissioner in any sport."
Roger Goodell salary
Goodell's salary is undisclosed, but there's evidence to prove it's greater than $40 million per year.
His last contract extension, which came in 2017, kept Goodell with the NFL for an additional five years. That deal was estimated to be worth $200 million with incentives and bonuses included, per Schefter.
Considering Schefter's report that Goodell's most recent extension is expected to be "the most lucrative deal ever given to any commissioner," it's safe to assume the annual value surpasses $40 million.
Goodell also reportedly made $63.9 million annually in the 2019 and 2020 seasons, per Associated Press' Rob Maaddi. A backloaded contract would explain higher annual value in those two seasons.

Roger Goodell career earnings
Similarly to Goodell's salary, there's not an official number on his career earnings as NFL commissioner.
That being said, Front Office Sports reported an estimate based on the NFL's tax filings from 2006-2015 among other reports. The site estimated Goodell's career earnings to be about $500 million prior to his latest extension.
His extension's value is undisclosed but is expected to break records for a commissioner's contract. That being said, it's reasonable to believe the three-year deal exceeds $200 million in total value.
That would bring Goodell's career earnings up to $700 million.
Is Roger Goodell retiring?
Goodell has no plans to retire just yet, as he signed a three-year extension in March 2023 that'll keep him as commissioner until March 2027.
His future beyond that is uncertain. He did not comment on whether he'd look to continue with the league beyond 2027.
