Washington could be looking to add a new running back this week amid Chris Thompson's struggles with turf toe.

The Redskins are working out free agent Josh Ferguson ahead of their Week 7 matchup against San Francisco, according to ESPN.

Ferguson went undrafted out of Illinois in 2016 but latched on with the Colts for all of that season — rushing for 20 yards while tallying 136 receiving yards.

He was waived by Indianapolis the following year and has since spent time on the practice squads of the Texans and Patriots while searching for another chance on a 53-man roster.

Adrian Peterson is Washington's top option out of the backfield with 226 yards on the season, but Bryce Love's recovery from an ACL injury adds to the team's lack of depth.

The Redskins (1-5) will certainly be challenged against the unexpectedly good 49ers (5-0) on Sunday.
