Packers vs. 49ers final score: San Francisco coasts to Super Bowl after dominant first half image

In the lead-up to their rematch in Sunday's NFC championship game, the 49ers said they didn't read much into the Week 12 beatdown they put on the Packers.

That may have been true, but the second edition of San Francisco hosting Green Bay played out quite similar to the first. The 49ers didn't allow a point before halftime and coasted to a 37-20 win, advancing to face the Chiefs in Super Bowl 54.

The Packers couldn't contain 49ers running back Raheem Mostert, who became the first player in NFL history to rush for at least 200 yards — he picked up 220 — and four touchdowns in a playoff game. Three of his TDs came in the first half, fueling San Francisco's 27-0 halftime lead.

Unlike in the 37-8 loss in Week 12, Green Bay's offense put up a fight after halftime; quarterback Aaron Rodgers led touchdown drives on his first three series of the second half. But Mostert's fourth score of the evening came in the interim, and a field goal from San Francisco Robbie Gould re-established a three-possession lead with 3:31 to play, ending the Packers' comeback effort.

49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo threw just eight passes all game, completing six of them and picking up 77 yards. Rodgers' statline of 31-for-39 passing for 326 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions couldn't keep up with San Francisco's 285 rushing yards.

Mostert's workload was so heavy partially because fellow 49ers running back Tevin Coleman left the game in the second quarter due to a shoulder injury. His health will be a significant storyline entering the Super Bowl.

Coleman has two weeks to recover before heading to Miami to face the Chiefs, who beat the Titans 35-24 in the AFC championship game earlier Sunday.

9:43 p.m.: INTERCEPTION, 49ers. Richard Sherman picks off a desperation deep ball from Rodgers. San Francisco is Super Bowl-bound.

9:33 p.m.: FIELD GOAL, 49ers. San Francisco ices it with a drive that was extended by an iffy pass interference call. Gould from 42 to go up three scores with 3:31 to play. 49ers 37, Packers 20.

9:15 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, Packers. Rodgers to Jace Sternberger for 8 yards. With 8:13 to go, this is nearly a game again. 49ers 34, Packers 20.

9:13 p.m.: Rodgers hits Davante Adams for a huge gain.

8:56 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, Packers. Rodgers hits Graham for 43 yards and what was initially ruled a score but was overturned to be inches short. Jones punches it in from a yard out. The Packers go for 2, and a poorly-placed pass from Rodgers falls incomplete. 49ers 34, Packers 13.

End third quarter: 49ers 34, Packers 7

8:52 p.m.: Green Bay converts a fourth-and-2 on the final play of the third quarter. Still have a lot of work to do in the final period.

8:42 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, 49ers. Not sure Green Bay can afford to trade scores at this point, but it apparently can't stop Mostert. San Francisco goes 79 yards, capped by Mostert's fourth score of the evening. 49ers 34, Packers 7.

8:28 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, Packers. Green Bay gets on the board on the first drive of the second half. A long way to go. 49ers 27, Packers 7.

8:09 p.m.: A halftime stats:

Packers total yards: 93.
49ers rushing yards: 185.

Halftime: 49ers 27, Packers 0

8:00 p.m.: Mostert has 160 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries.

7:59 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, 49ers. Mostert again, just about untouched from 18 yards. This game seems over. 49ers 27, Packers 0.

7:53 p.m.: INTERCEPTION, 49ers. Rodgers misfires deep in his own territory. This is a disaster.

7:50 p.m.: FIELD GOAL, 49ers. Just after the 2-minute warning, San Francisco elected for a short field goal on fourth-and-2 from the 9. 49ers 20, Packers 0.

7:45 p.m.: Coleman injury update.

7:40 p.m.: A huge gain from Mostert puts the 49ers across midfield.

7:36 p.m.: FUMBLE, Packers. The snap ends up laying on the ground for the taking. It's taken by DeForest Buckner. This is close to getting out of hand.

7:29 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, 49ers. On the first play after Coleman's injury, Mostert scores from 9 yards out. San Francisco is in control early. 49ers 17, Packers 0.

7:25 p.m.: Coleman catches himself awkwardly as he goes down, and he seems to have injured his wrest rather seriously. He's carted off.

7:17 p.m.: JK Scott shanks a punt for just 23 yards. San Francisco takes over at the Packers' 37, which is just two yards beyond the first-down marker.

7:16 p.m.: Another third-down sack for the 49ers. Rodgers has the ball slapped away from him by a blitzing K'Waun Williams, and Green Bay is fortunate to fall on it.

7:13 P.M.: FIELD GOAL, 49ers. San Francisco had great field position, so a roughing the passer penalty was all that was required to get into field-goal range. Robbie Gould hits from 54 yards out, his longest make since 2014. Big-time players in big-time games. 49ers 10, Packers 0.

End first quarter: 49ers 7, Packers 0

7:03 p.m.: Nick Bosa sacks Aaron Rodgers on third down. Looking pretty familiar to start here.

6:55 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, 49ers. San Francisco scores easily. Raheem Mostert goes 36 yards to the house, a few plays after Deebo Samuel had a 30-yard catch-and-run. The home team goes up early. 49ers 7, Packers 0.

6:50 p.m.: Green Bay picks up a first down but a nice stop on third-and-3 from linebacker Dre Greenlaw forces the Packers to punt.

6:44 p.m.: Two Tevin Coleman runs set up third-and-1, but the Packers defense stop Coleman for no gain. Big three-and-out to start the game.

6:40 p.m.: San Francisco begins on offense following a touchback.
