The Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers have an interesting NFC playoff history.

This will be the third meeting between the two sides since 2020, with the 49ers taking each. Those previous matches were led by Aaron Rodgers for Green Bay and Jimmy Garoppolo for San Francisco.

Neither play for the Packers or the 49ers now, though, so the playoff rivalry will be a bit different when Jordan Love faces Brock Purdy in Santa Clara in the divisional round.

However, the head coaches know each other well. Matt LaFleur and Kyle Shanahan were still the head coaches for those previous games and both worked together in Washington before moving on to new jobs. So while the quarterbacks are very different, the men at the top of both teams are still very much the same.

The teams around each quarterback are also very different compared to the two sides' most recent playoff meeting. Love made his playoff debut this past week and almost-flawlessly led the Packers to victory over the Dallas Cowboys. He did so with a relatively inexperienced collection of pass-catchers made up almost entirely of first- and second-year players.

Purdy, meanwhile, will continue to operate with his cast of standout skill position players in running back Christian McCaffrey, tight end George Kittle and wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. San Francisco earned a first-round bye after earning the No. 1 seed.

The 49ers finished the year with the third-best scoring offense of 28.9 points that also put up the second-most total yards. San Francisco is backed up by its lockdown defense that allowed the third-fewest yards this season – 17.5. The 49ers will face Love's offense that averaged just 22.5 points per game on the year but averaged 31 points over the final four games of the year.
