O.J. Simpson's murder trial continues to make the headlines — even in 2024.
In April of this year, Simpson died after a long battle with prostate cancer. The former football star was 76 years old at the time of his passing.
While he initially rose to fame on the gridiron, that's not what Simpson is most remembered for. His legacy is more closely tied to the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman. The two were brutally stabbed outside of Brown Simpson's house, and Simpson became the prime subject in the case.
After a lengthy trial, Simpson was acquitted. On October 3, 1995, he was found not guilty by the jury on both counts of murder. As a result, the case goes down as one of the most controversial in U.S. history.
Following the death of Simpson, new information on the murder trial and investigation was released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The agency released documents about the case and what went into the investigation of the two murders.

Here is what the new files released by the FBI say about Simpson and the murders.
What do the FBI documents on O.J. Simpson reveal?
While the FBI released never-before-seen documents that covered the Simpson murder trial, not much of the information was new. The vast majority of the files released centered on evidence collection, fiber testing, and blood testing.
The biggest piece that stood out were the parts regarding Bruno Magli shoes. In the files, it states that the FBI also went to Italy to study the collection of shoes from the designer. Bruno Magli is a rare shoe that was determined to be worn by the murderer.
The documents go into details on what went into tracking the sales of the models sold in the United States at the time, as well the soles of the shoes. Simpson denied ever wearing Bruno Magli footwear, however, there are newspaper photos that show otherwise.

Why did the FBI release O.J. Simpson documents?
The FBI has a policy that once an individual dies, it can release records they have obtained on the person over the years.
In this case, the first publication of documents comes less than two months after the death of Simpson. He died on April 10 after a long battle with cancer.
It is unclear if this batch is the only group of files that will be released by the FBI. The agency titled these documents "Part 01." It is not uncommon for the bureau to release documents in batches.
