The trend that started with the hiring of a young Sean McVay in 2017 is at least partially a reason the Eagles hired Nick Sirianni in 2021.

McVay's instant success as a bright offensive mind quickly inspired other teams to hire young offensive-minded coaches, and the success of Kyle Shanahan, Matt LaFleur, and others in the years that followed have only extended the trend.

That led the Eagles to Sirianni in 2021, less than two weeks after they ousted Super Bowl-winning coach Doug Pederson. A young coach with four years of offensive coordinator experience under old friend Frank Reich in Indianapolis, Sirianni was a leap-of-faith selection by Philadelphia.

It's fair to say the franchise's gamble has paid off. Sirianni will be coaching in Super Bowl 57 after a terrific 14-3 season, seeking to do what Andy Reid never did by winning a championship with the Eagles.

Here's all you need to know about Sirianni's age, as well as where he would rank among the youngest head coaches to win a Lombardi Trophy.

How old is Nick Sirianni?

Sirianni is 41 years old and is set to turn 42 in June. He was 39 when the Eagles hired him in 2021.

Despite having the chance to become one of the youngest head coaches to win a Super Bowl, Sirianni is only the ninth-youngest head coach in the league. Sean McVay remains the NFL's youngest head coach even as he enters his seventh season with the Rams, and four other coaches are still younger than 40.

Youngest coaches to win Super Bowl

McVay became the youngest head coach to win a Super Bowl a year ago at 36 years and 20 days old after he and the Rams defeated the Bengals for the second Lombardi Trophy in franchise history.

The Rams head coach moved ahead of Mike Tomlin, who previously held the record when  the Steelers beat the Cardinals 27-23 in Super Bowl 43. Tomlin was 36 years, 10 months and 17 days old at the time.

So while Sirianni can't break that record, a win over the Chiefs would make him the fifth-youngest head coach to win a Super Bowl.

He would slot in behind McVay, Mike Tomlin, Jon Gruden, and John Madden, with Joe Gibbs, Chuck Noll, and Don Shula next on the list. That's some great company to have.

Nick Sirianni coaching record

Season W L Pct.
2021 9 8 .529
2022 14 3 .824
Total 23 11 .676

Sirianni has achieved back-to-back winning seasons to begin his tenure in Philadelphia, earning a playoff berth both seasons.

Doug Pederson won a Super Bowl in his second season with the Eagles, and his second season as a head coach overall, so there's some precedent for Sirianni to reach the top of the mountain this month.
