Tom Savage's season is over.

The Texans placed the fourth-year quarterback on injured reserve Saturday.

Savage has not played since suffering a concussion against the 49ers Dec. 10. He was hit by 49ers linebacker Elvis Dumervil on a third-down pass during the second quarter of a 26-16 loss at NRG Stadium. Savage briefly returned to the game before he was replaced by T.J. Yates for the remainder of the contest.

Yates started last week's 45-7 loss to the Jaguars and will start Monday's game against the Steelers.

Savage started the season opener before rookie Deshaun Watson took over. After Watson was lost for the season with a knee injury, Savage started six games and has thrown for 1,412 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions on the year. Yates was just 12 of 31 for 128 yards with a touchdown and interception in the loss to the Jaguars.

The Texans signed first-year tight end Ryan Malleck to replace Savage on the active roster. Houston will also be without offensive linemen Jeff Allen (concussion) and Kendall Lamm (concussion) and linebacker LaTroy Lewis (shoulder) against the Steelers.
