The Cowboys, losers of two in a row, need to right the ship Thanksgiving Day against the Chargers if they want to keep their playoff aspirations a reality. And no Cowboy understands that better than 15-year veteran Jason Witten.

The tight end called a meeting with the offense earlier this week to address its woeful performance over the last two weeks. In 23 combined drives against the Eagles and Falcons, Dallas (5-5) has scored just one touchdown and produced a measly 16 points.

“It was a good visit,” Witten said of the meeting (via Star-Telegram.com). “I think our guys understand what the task is and where we are in the season. Look, we’ve seen what we’re capable of doing. This offense, we know we have the right guys, the right players and the right coaches. So there is a lot of confidence that comes from that. You know, you just have to play better.”

Dak Prescott didn’t use the absence of Ezekiel Elliott and Tyron Smith as an excuse Sunday after a 37-9 loss to the Eagles. He will get Smith back against San Diego, but still plans to be accountable for the team’s performance.

“To me as players, we’ve got to execute better, we’ve got to make guys miss sometimes, one-on-ones we’ve got to make guys miss, sometimes getting out of the pocket instead of running out of bounds — hey maybe I’ll try to make that safety miss and try to score,” he said.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET (CBS) at AT&T Stadium.
