The Patriots released wide receiver Kenny Britt, the team announced Wednesday.

Britt, 29, entered Patriots camp this summer with high expectations, but a hamstring injury has hampered his progress. Britt stated earlier this week he felt he was missing valuable reps.

“I definitely feel like I’m behind,” Britt said, via providencejournal.com. “Because I’m not out there with the guys getting the chemistry that I need with the quarterbacks and just with everybody on the same page with what we do.”

Between the Browns and Patriots last season, Britt caught 20 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns. He has 329 career receptions with 32 touchdowns.

New England has had a tumultuous offseason with wide receivers. It sent Brandin Cooks to the Rams, lost Julian Edelman for the first four games due to a suspension for failing the league's performance-enhancing drug policy, and released Malcolm Mitchell.

Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett, Cordarrelle Patterson and Eric Decker will now enter the season as New England's top receivers.
