NFL news and notes: Todd Gurley day-to-day with thigh injury; A.J. Green returns to practice image

Jalen Ramsey's status isn't the only significant question mark as Week 6 action ramps up.

We dive into the latest injury updates regarding Todd Gurley, Davante Adams and others in this edition of NFL news and notes.

Three things that matter

Todd Gurley day-to-day entering Week 6

The Rams running back was hurt in the team's loss to the Seahawks last Thursday and later diagnosed with a thigh contusion in his left quad, which kept him out of practice Wednesday.

"It kind of caught us all off guard," coach Sean McVay said of Gurley's injury. "He's so tough and he plays through so many different things."

When asked if he expected Gurley to be able to play Sunday against the undefeated 49ers, McVay couldn't commit to him being available.

"It's hard to say," he said. "Fortunately for us, we've got some depth at the position. And we've talked about it — whether it's this week at some point, the confidence we have in Malcolm, but then there's also going to be a time that we're going to rely on Darrell Henderson. It might end up being this week."

Jaguars owner thinks Jalen Ramsey will play Sunday

Shad Khan told a business news and investing website in a recent interview he expects the star cornerback to be "fine this week" against the Saints after missing the last two games with a back injury. Khan added he had a "heart-to-heart" with Ramsey and the two sides will come up with a solution after the All-Pro put in a trade request.

The comments come after Ramsey returned to practice Wednesday on a limited basis just days after visiting a specialist in Houston for his back ailment.

A.J. Green participates in "very limited" practice

While he's already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Ravens, the Bengals receiver was in a helmet and pads Thursday.

Green has yet to make his season debut as he continues to recover from the ankle injury he suffered in training camp that required surgery in late July, but it's a positive sign for a depleted Cincinnati team that is desperate to avoid its first 0-6 start since 2008.

Two things that don't matter

Davante Adams still being held out of workouts

The Packers receiver missed the team's win over the Cowboys last week after being diagnosed with turf toe. He was seen at practice Thursday but wasn't dressed out and was seen standing on the sideline.

His absence is a good indication he won't play Monday against the Lions, though the team should get a boost with the return of running back Jamaal Williams after he cleared the concussion protocol and practiced Thursday.

Christian McCaffrey set to play after resting this week

The Panthers running back injured his back while diving into the endzone for a touchdown during Sunday's win over the Jaguars, so he didn't practice Wednesday. But McCaffrey was back on the field Thursday, giving reason to believe he'll be good to go against the Buccaneers.

Expect him to build on his league-leading 587 rushing yards to go with his 279 receiving yards when the NFC South foes face off for the second NFL game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

NFL legend and Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre celebrated a milestone birthday, but it's hard to believe he still isn't playing.

Thursday's tweet of the day

Jamal Adams reportedly won his fine appeal for his late hit last month on Baker Mayfield, and the Jets safety shared his excitement on Twitter.
