Redskins offensive tackle Trent Williams will miss Sunday’s game against the Falcons because of a thumb injury after having surgery on his right thumb Thursday in Pittsburgh, The Washington Post reported.
Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Friday he had “no idea right now” when Williams would return, but multiple reports Saturday indicated Williams would be out about a month. Williams was injured in the first half of last Sunday's game against the Giants.

Williams, 30, a six-time Pro Bowl selection and playing in his ninth season, is pivotal in the Redskins’ rushing attack and pass protection. The Redskins rank sixth in the NFL in rushing offense at 128 yards per game.

Williams had surgery in September on his knee during the team’s opening week but did not miss any playing time.
Ty Nsekhe will replace Williams at left tackle. Nsekhe, 33, has started 11 of his 49 games over five NFL seasons dating back to 2012 with Rams.
“He’s done it before,” Gruden said of Nsekhe. “He’s very much a starting tackle in the NFL. … The reason we covet him so much is situations like this.”
