The regular season is on, and the Jets and 49ers both have redemption on their minds coming into 2024 — but the two franchises' definitions of redemption are a little different.

For New York, it means reaching the level it expected to attain last fall before star quarterback Aaron Rodgers got hurt. Rodgers, who was traded to the Jets in 2023 after 18 seasons with the Packers, ruptured his Achilles just four snaps into the season-opening game. Prior to his injury, fans had hope that Rodgers could pull the Jets out of a 13-year playoff drought.

Having built much of the roster around the veteran, the Jets stumbled to another 7-10 record and missed out on the playoffs yet again. But a year later, Rodgers is back and ready to hit the ground running. The Jets defense should turn in another excellent season, and the combination of running back Breece Hall and 2022 offensive rookie of the year Garrett Wilson should make the offense a threat.

For San Francisco, redemption means avenging its second Super Bowl loss in four years. The 49ers lost a brutal 25-22 overtime battle to the defending champion Chiefs, despite having a stacked roster and solid regular season.

Luckily for Niners fans, most of the "dream team" is returning this fall, and the front office made some big moves during free agency, which should keep the franchise in a Super Bowl window for at least another year. After protracted negotiation, San Francisco finally reached deals to bring back stars Trent Williams and Brandon Aiyuk. With those two back in the fold, all eyes will be on quarterback Brock Purdy as he attempts to beat the one-hit wonder worries in his second season.

So, who's going to start their redemption arc with a Week 1 win? Here's what to know about the Monday night matchup between the Jets and 49ers, including kick off time and TV and streaming options.
